CAIR-Chicago trains ICIRR Fellows
On November 15th, Gerald Hankerson, CAIR-Chicago’s Outreach Coordinator, conducted an event planning workshop for the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) “Uniting America” fellowship. Hankerson trained 18 fellows on how to reach out to the community.
“Uniting America” is a project that aims to build connections between the immigrant community and native-born citizens through volunteerism.
Hankerson trained the fellows on effective event planning with a focus on multicultural events. He also discussed civic engagement and how to increase community involvement in the next election.
Community events are important in order to “help maintain a cohesive society that is engaged and aware of every person who can contribute directly through ideas and action,” stated Hankerson.
This training workshop will be a part of a series of workshops that will be hosted by ICIRR. Amina Sharif, CAIR-Chicago’s Communications Coordinator, will also be conducting a workshop on December 20th.
