Communications Coordinator Amina Sharif Speaks at Roosevelt University

On November 28, Amina Sharif, CAIR-Chicago’s Communications Coordinator, spoke to a class at Roosevelt University entitled “Social and Cultural Foundations.”

Most of the students in the class are education and counseling majors.  Professor Roberto Clemente invited Sharif to discuss the basic tenets of Islam, what it means to be a Muslim in today's Western society, and what civil rights and social justice issues Muslims have faced since 9/11.

Sharif said she tailored her presentation to focus specifically on what the students should know when working with Muslim clients or students in the future.

Sharif then discussed the services CAIR-Chicago provides and the types of discrimination complaints they commonly receive.  She also shared a list of other Muslim agencies and resources in the community.

“I believe that many misconceptions were cleared-up, as the students asked pertinent questions,” said Sharif.  "I am sure they will make great educators and counselors in the future."
