Attend the American Hijab Design Contest on April 28

The American Hijab Design Contest is set to take place on Sunday, April 28, 2013 in Evanston, IL. Recognizing that the way American Muslim women wear hijab today is primarily an Arab style, Shaz Kaiseruddin - the Founder and CEO of the American Hijab Design Contest- is spearheading a national contest offering widespread exposure and opportunity for aspiring and established designers which will involve them interpreting hijab in any way they can possibly imagine, to create truly American Hijab styles. It need not even be a scarf that covers the hair.

At the same time, she hopes to battle the discrimination that Muslim women face in America by helping make images of hijab fashion more commonplace and familiar.

And all the while, she hopes to encourage the mainstream fashion world to pay greater attention to this $96 billion+ market. Many Americans, Muslim or not, are seeking options other than the usual short and tight, and the fashion world would benefit from keeping up. Covered chic is the new avant-garde.
