WGN:Shot fired at Orland Park mosque[VIDEO]

A shot was fired at an Orland Park mosque Tuesday morning during daybreak prayers.

The assault has the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) calling for an FBI hate crime investigation

The shooting took place at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday when one shot was fired in the dome of the Prayer Center of Orland Park

The mosque is modeled after the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

There were about 40 people inside at the time gathered for morning prayer.

The imam tells investigators debris from the dome fell to the floor and thankfully no one was hurt.

Orland Park police are investigating but the investigation may expand to the federal level as well.   The prayer center is working with the Chicago chapter of CAIR in asking the FBI to investigate this as a hate crime.

But the executive director of CAIR won’t speculate why this happened now.

Meanwhile, the mosque is asking Orland Park Police to increase their patrols around the area.
