[Media Advisory]CAIR-Chicago Celebrates Naturalization Ceremony

  (CHICAGO, IL, 2/20/2018) – The Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, attended the naturalization ceremony for a client that received her citizenship after many years of trying.

The client, Shafaq Vali, came to the U.S. from Pakistan and applied for citizenship in 2012 based on her marriage to a United States citizen. After interviewing with USCIS, she was told she would receive an oath notice in the mail that never arrived. Following two more requests that were subsequently denied, Vali sought intervention from CAIR-Chicago and successfully attained citizenship in the United States February 20, 2018.

“Citizenship delay continues to be a prominent issue in American Muslim communities with over 20 cases open to date,” CAIR-Chicago Litigation Director Phil Robertson stated . “However, CAIR-Chicago will continuously strive to resolve as many of these cases as possible.”

Ms. Vali’s case marks the 367th citizenship victory for the CAIR-Chicago office.
