CAIR- Chicago Co-Sponsors Two Part Lecture Series

On Saturday, April 1, 2006, CAIR-Chicago volunteers and interns participated in the first of a two part workshop series on 501(c)3 guidelines which took place at the Indo-American Center located in Chicago. Panelists Robin LaBedz from the League of Women Voters and Tuyet Le from the Asian-American Institute, informed the participants on how non-profit organizations can be involved in voter registration, political empowerment, and lobbying efforts without hurting their non-partisan status. The panelists also the audience on exerting a voice in the political process through voter registration drives, candidate forums, and fact sheets, while adhering to (C)3 regulations. The second session of the “Empowering Ourselves: Strengthening our South Asian Voice” workshops will take place at the Indo-American Center on May, 6 2006 from 10am to 12pm and will focus on immigration and citizenship and community involvement.
