CAIR-Chicago Co-Sponsors Civic Engagement Workshop

CAIR-Chicago, along with several other organizations co-sponsored a civic engagement workshop entitled, “Empowering Ourselves: Strengthening Our South Asian Voice” on Saturday, June 9th at the Indo-American Center in Chicago. Participants were given the opportunity to contact their elected officials by signing postcards that encouraged members of Congress to take into consideration the demands of the immigrant community. In addition, Susan Patel from the Indo-American Center and Jenny Arwade from the Albany Park Neighborhood Council spoke about ways to engage community members in political activism. Finally, CAIR-Chicago Government Affairs Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed and SAALT volunteer Mariyah Qureishi presented on the current proposals for comprehensive immigration reform.
