Public Accommodation Denied to Muslim Man - Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham Files Appeal

Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham filed an appeal with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) on behalf of a Muslim man who was denied public accommodation on the basis of his national origin and religion. The man was pulled over by police after shopping at a local retail store. The police officer informed the man that the store reported him as a shoplifter. After showing the officer that he had made purchases at the store, the officer let the man go with a traffic warning.

In addition to filing a charge of discrimination against the store on behalf of the man, CAIR-Chicago has now filed an appeal on the grounds that the IDHR investigator made credibility determinations in issuing her findings.
