WGN-AM Radio: Villa Park Mosque Vandalized (AUDIO)

The Islamic Foundation Mosque in west suburban Villa Park was vandalized for the fourth time in less than two months when someone threw a 5-gallon tank of flammable liquid into the mosque's school, breaking two windows, mosque officials said. A mosque employee discovered the canister and broken windows, mosque officials said. No one was injured in the attack.

Villa Park police are investigating the incident. Two weeks ago, mosque leaders found a Jewish Star of David scrawled to a wall of the mosque, the officials said.

Prior to that, anti-Islamic graffiti was spray-painted to the wall of the mosque's school and in a separate incident windows to the school were shattered.

The Mosque's imam, Abdur-Rahman Khan, said the Muslim community has been taken aback by the spate of attacks because the mosque enjoys good relations with other organizations in Villa Park and has hosted several mayors and congressmen in the past.

"We are very surprised that this is happening to us, we are so involved in the local community and bear no animosity towards anyone," Khan said in a press release.

"We know in our hearts that the vast majority of our neighbors support us, but this malicious minority is getting bolder and their attacks are intensifying."
