After Four Year Wait, Success at Citizenship Appeal Hearing

Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham represented a man in an appeal hearing for his application for citizenship before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). After passing his citizenship test in 2005, the man’s application was pending a background check for four years. Later, USCIS sent a letter rejecting his citizenship, claiming he missed another scheduled interview date allegedly sent in writing. However, neither the man nor his representatives ever received any such interview notice. As a result, CAIR-Chicago appealed this case and was granted a hearing.

At the hearing, an immigration officer approved his application and the man was later scheduled for an oath ceremony.
