Civil Rights Director and Staff Attorney Discuss the State of Civil Rights in Post 9-11 America

kv_caCAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham and Staff Attorney Kevin Vodak presented on the state of civil rights in post 9-11 America at an event entitled "The War on Terror and the Rights of Muslims," sponsored by the American Constitutional Society (ACS).  The event was hosted by the reputable law firm, Hughes Sokol Piers Resnick and Dym, Ltd.  Approximately 19 attorneys and law students attended the event.  Abraham and Vodak discussed the issues of media representation of Muslims, government policies affecting Muslim civil rights and the "trickle-down" effect as they relate to hate crimes and employment discrimination.  The event took place on November 17.

The mission of the American Constitution Society is to "promote the vitality of the U.S. Constitution and the fundamental values it expresses: individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, access to justice, democracy and the rule of law."  ACS is one of the nation's leading progressive legal organizations. Founded in 2001, it is a rapidly growing network of lawyers, law students, scholars, judges, policymakers and other concerned individuals.
