CAIR-Chicago Executive Director, Ahmed Rehab, to Speak at American Islamic College - 7/12/2010
Representatives from CAIR-Chicago will be part of the American Islamic College's Islam 101 series this July-August.
Tonight, CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab will discuss contemporary Islamic issues including Muslim-West relations, Islamophobia, Islam in the Media, and the Obama administration's performance in terms of relations to Muslims at home and abroad.
This workshop series is designed to provide a brief yet thorough introduction to Islam. It covers the fundamental beliefs and practices of the Islamic faith and contemporary issues facing the Muslim community particularly in the United States. Participants will learn about the five pillars of Islam, the various schools of thought and branches of Islam as well as their historical contexts and contemporary implications, the significance of Muhammad (pbuh) to Islam and Muslims as well as other key figures in Islam, the Qur’an, religious holidays and the month of Ramadan, Islam and its application throughout various cultures, the veil or hijab, as well as common misconceptions and their impact on the Muslim community particularly in the United States.
