Citizenship granted: CAIR-Chicago's recent victories

CAIR-Chicago’s Litigation Director Kevin Vodak recently resolved a citizenship denial case for an American Muslim whose citizenship application had been denied by USCIS. Lubna Mughrbi, the plaintiff, came to the United States from Libya and originally applied for U.S. citizenship in 2005. Mughrbi was naturalized on August 17, 2012 after CAIR-Chicago filed a complaint in early April 2012.

Another victory was granted to a Moroccan born American Muslim who initially applied for citizenship in April of 2011. After having his application withdrawn due to his divorce with a U.S. Citizen, he sought help from CAIR-Chicago. He was finally naturalized on August 1, 2012 after an official complaint was filed on his behalf in April 2012.

The most recent case that was resolved was for a 72 year old Egyptian born American Muslim who was naturalized this past week on September 4. CAIR-Chicago initially filed a complaint on his behalf on August 12, 2012.

Citizenship delay persists as is a prominent issue in the American Muslim community, and CAIR-Chicago continuously strives to resolves as many of these cases as possible.
