“A remarkable portrait…worthy of its Oscar buzz.”

—Ishaan Tharoor, Time Magazine

Shortlisted for an Oscar nomination and winner of the audience award at both the 2013 Sundance and Toronto film festivals, THE SQUARE is a uniquely immersive experience that sizzles with the energy, danger, and spirit of history in the making. This thrillingly chaotic chronicle filmed at street level in Tahrir Square carries Egypt’s revolution from the heady days of the overthrow of a dictator through the crackdown of martial law and to the deposing of a president. Enemies become friends, friends become rivals, and the will of the people is seen vividly as a seething, breathing force. In Arabic and English with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)

Director Jehane Noujaim will participate in an audience Q&A via Skype following the 8:15 pm screening on Friday and following the 7:45 pm screening on Saturday.

The Friday 8:15 pm screening is presented in partnership with Egyptians Abroad for Development with DePaul University Religious Studies Department co-hosting, and moderated by Ahmed Rehab of CAIR - Council on American-Islamic Relations.
