CAIR-Chicago Welcomes Police Investigation into KKK Literature Distribution in Orland Park Neighborhood

(Chicago, IL, 1/9/2020) – The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) today welcomes news of a police investigation into white supremacist literature distributed in an Orland Park neighborhood.

News broke of residents receiving plastic bags filled with hate speech and contact information from the Ku Klux Klan on January 5th.

“We’re deeply saddened, but not surprised by this intolerant act. We have consistently seen an increase in white nationalism and supremacy following validation from the current administration,” said Communications Coordinator Saadia Pervaiz.

The desk of Orland Park’s Mayor Keith Pekau also released a statement, underlining that the incident isn’t reflective of Orland Park’s values.

“We’re staying vigilant,” Executive Director Ahmed Rehab said, “we are urging our communities to know their rights and stand strong in this growing wave of racism and bigotry.”

CAIR-Chicago is the Chicago Chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Our mission is to defend civil rights, fight bigotry, and promote tolerance.
