Citizenship Delay Workshop at ICCDP

TOPIC - Citizenship Delay Project SPEAKER - Yaser Tabbara, Executive Director, CAIR-Chicago; and a representative from the Arab American Action Network

MODERATOR - Christina Abraham, Civil Rights Coordinator, CAIR-Chicago

WHEN - Sunday, December 18th, from 4:30-5:30 PM

WHERE - Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines, 480 Potter Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION - The workshop will first explain to the community what the process is after one applies for citizenship and takes the interview. We will explain all of the factors behind the lengthy delays of perhaps thousands of Muslims who have applied for citizenship. The talk will also explain the legal options of those who have been waiting for a long amount of time to take their oath ceremony, what CAIR-Chicago, AAAN, MIHRC, and attorney David Berten are planning to address the issue, and how the Muslim community can participate in this project. We will also perform intake on-site for members of the community who wish to discuss their experience of citizenship delay to see how we can help.
