Public Prayer is Universal
Response to this article, published in the Dec. 13 issue of the Chicago Sun-Times
Thank you, Neil, for you intelligent, informed article "Fear and loathing in the cat food aisle" (Dec. 13). I am appalled by the attitude of the letter writer who said she wanted to physically assault three Muslim women praying in a Costco, and your response that "hating other people is like taking poison and expecting someone else to die" is right on target.
I've seen people say the rosary on the Blue Line, and I can honestly say that decking them was the farthest thing from my mind. I've had pocket Bibles thrust into my hands on the way to work, which is far more intrusive than merely praying in my line of sight, and never gave it a second thought. Getting "enraged" over something that barely concerns you does nothing but raise your own blood pressure.
