RAMADAN 21ST: BYSTANDER INTERVENTION

CAIR-Chicago works with a social science model known as Bystander Intervention, a model that predicts the likelihood of individuals and/or groups who are willing to actively address a situation they deem problematic.

The Problem

For the last twenty years, hate crimes against Muslims have been on the rise. In 2016, they have increased exponentially nationwide due in part to the Trump Administration's rhetoric. At the beginning of 2020, we witnessed the start of a global pandemic during an election cycle.

Since then, we have also seen a sharp rise in anti-Asian harassment across the country, with Illinois being the 3rd ranked state in number of reported incidents.

The Solution

CAIR-Chicago has partnered with Advancing Justice-Chicago and Hollaback! in providing an one-hour, interactive online training.

CAIR-Chicago will continue it's mission to educate our community on ways of indivudals learning to become a 'upstander' in discriminatory/emergency situations.
