CAIR-Chicago Administers Sensitivity Training Session as Part of Employment Discrimination Resolution

CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Coordinator administered CAIR-Chicago’s Sensitivity Training to employees of a business involved in discriminating against a Muslim woman earlier this year. An employee of the business told the woman that she could not wear her headscarf (hijab) because of company policy. The employee referred to the headscarf as “that thing on your head,” and later referred to it as a “turban.” CAIR-Chicago’s Sensitivity Training gave the employers and employees of the business a background on Islam and Muslims, and educated them on the rights of individuals to be allotted reasonable accommodations to practice their religion in the workplace.
