(CHICAGO, IL, 6/18/2020) - The Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, today celebrates the Supreme Court of the United States’ (SCOTUS) decision to block the Trump Administration’s plan to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program allows individuals who were brought to the United States as children avoid deportation to their home countries.

“It was the dream vs the nightmare. Students who came here as young children, living in the only home they’ve ever known can dream of a bright future again - where it is a win for them and a win for America,” Executive Director Ahmed Rehab said. “There was no reason to want to destroy their lives other than racism. just shameful. But sanity prevailed. Brown Kids 1 - Brown Shirts 0.”

In light of this decision, CAIR-Chicago urges Congress to pass the DREAM Act, which will provide those in the DACA program with a right to work and conditional residency with the possibility of permanent residency in the United States.

CAIR-Chicago is the Chicago Chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Our mission is to defend civil rights, fight bigotry, and promote tolerance.
