We are thrilled to share a heartwarming success story with you. A community member, whom we value greatly, has successfully obtained a green card. This accomplishment comes after a long and challenging journey, which was made even more difficult due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October 2019, the client began obtaining a green card by marrying a U.S. citizen and applying for permanent residency. At first, everything went well, but his interview, scheduled for April 2020, had to be postponed due to the pandemic. This caused the client to feel anxious and uncertain. Eventually, his consultation was rescheduled for December 2020.

In December, during an interview, the client received disappointing news that their application would be "placed under review," causing a long and torturous wait for a resolution. Despite making multiple inquiries to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the client received no clear answers. They also sought help from Senator Dick Durbin and Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, but unfortunately, their attempts did not result in the desired outcome.

Faced with the complexities of the immigration process and the pressing need for assistance, our valued community member reached out to CAIR-Chicago to find a solution. Recognizing the urgency and importance of the matter, CAIR-Chicago immediately engaged its resources to assist the client.

In May of 2023, CAIR-Chicago acted decisively on behalf of their client. Two committed attorneys, Phil Robertson, and Joseph Milburn, filed a Writ of Mandamus lawsuit against USCIS to contest the excessive delay in processing the client's green card application. The legal action forced USCIS to meet its obligations and hasten the resolution of the client's case.

A pivotal moment happened on June 27 when the client and his wife attended a vital interview related to their marriage. With the guidance of legal counsel Joseph Milburn, they presented their case confidently and persistently. Notably, the following day, the client received the exciting news of the green card approval they had been waiting for.

The client's successful green card journey is a testament to the strength of community support and advocacy. CAIR-Chicago takes great pride in celebrating this achievement and reaffirms its dedication to helping individuals navigate complex immigration procedures.
