Illinois Organizers and Elected Officials Host Post-Hearing Press Conference on HB2723

(Chicago, IL - 4/30/26) - Elected officials and community organizers held a press conference following a hearing on HB2327, a bill that seeks to repeal the 2015 bill then Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed, effectively making it illegal for Illinois companies to boycott Israel.

The coalition affirmed that HB 2723 is fundamentally about protecting constitutional rights and ensuring Illinois residents are not penalized for participating in nonviolent boycotts—a long-recognized tool of civil rights movements.

Speakers and coalition members raised grave concern over what they described as Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and emphasized that public institutions must not be complicit—directly or indirectly—in systems that enable mass civilian harm.

Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, Illinois State Representative

Andrew Herrera, Illinois Coalition for Human Rights (ICHR)

Rabbi Brant Rosen, Tzedek Chicago
