Deputy Director and Communications Coordinator Lead Activist Training at ICIRR

On Tuesday December 20th, CAIR-Chicago Deputy Director Sufyan Sohel and Communications Coordinator Amina Sharif, held an event planning workshop for fellows at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR). The workshop participants were part of ICIRR’s ‘Uniting America’ fellowship which works to develop relationships between immigrant communities and native-born U.S. citizens built on volunteerism, dialogue, and community service. During the training, Sohel and Sharif focused their presentation on considerations that should be taken when planning an event, how to prepare, conduct, and wrap-up events, and how to produce successful events that bring together different communities. They used events held at the CAIR-Chicago Gallery as models for how various communities can meet and build connections.

CAIR-Chicago is one of ICIRR’s member organizations. ICIRR works with ethnic and immigrant communities to encourage new Americans to participate in the democratic process, and encourages them to be ambassadors for immigrant and refugee related issues.
