SouthtownStar: Threats target Bridgeview mosque
A Facebook posting making threats against Muslims and targeting a Bridgeview mosque has resulted in increased police surveillance and an investigation by the FBI, according to the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
The threats targeted the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview and alluded to shooting and killing Muslims, Ahmed Rehab, executive director of CAIR’s Chicago chapter, said Thursday.
He said the postings were made last weekend and were brought to the attention of mosque members.
Bridgeview police and the FBI were contacted, and police have increased their surveillance and presence in the area of the mosque, 7360 W. 93rd St., Oussama Jammal, vice president of the Mosque Foundation, said Thursday.
CAIR was recommending that Chicago-area mosques, Islamic schools and Muslim organizations increase security measures, particularly during prayer times and special events, and to report any threats made by social media and other means.
Jammal said that “you become more vigilant” in response to such threats.
“We are quite concerned,” he said. “We have a lot of kids come to the area.”
