The News Gazette: Authorities investigating threats against Bridgeview mosque
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says federal authorities are helping local law enforcement investigate online threats against a suburban mosque.
The chapter's executive director says the threats targeting the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview alluded to the shooting and killing of Muslims. He says the posts were made on social media last weekend, prompting at least one person to contact Bridgeview police and the FBI.
A Bridgeview spokesman says police launched an investigation Tuesday with the help of the FBI. He says the police department is taking the threats seriously.
The vice president of the Mosque Foundation says police have since increased their surveillance and presence near the mosque.
The spokesman says police have identified the teen who made the threats but he hasn't been arrested.
