- For Immediate Release and Distribution -
(CHICAGO, IL, 2/26/2026) – The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, proudly shares that Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, who serves Illinois's 3rd district, took to the House Floor to commend CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab for his leadership and steadfast commitment to civil rights on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026.
During her remarks, Rep. Ramirez described Rehab as “a fearless advocate and leader,” noting that “for more than two decades, Ahmed has defended our civil rights and protected our Muslim and immigrant neighbors and communities.”
Her commendation has now been permanently entered into the Congressional Record, preserving this recognition within our nation’s official archives.
Highlighting the power of collective action, Rep. Ramirez echoed a message central to CAIR-Chicago’s work: “Coalition is commitment. It means standing together before the storm, not just during it.” She concluded by stating, “I am proud to commend Ahmed Rehab for his tireless defense of our civil liberties and for the wisdom he brings to the work of solidarity and unity.”
In response to the recognition, Rehab stated:
“I am humbled by this precious commendation, most of all because it comes from a feisty elected leader I deeply respect—someone who fights courageously for equity, dignity, and human rights at a time where some in Congress promote hatred, division, and dehumanization. Our way is light, and light is the only way to defeat darkness. Thank you.”
This moment is not just an honor for one leader, but a reflection of the strength of our community and the impact of principled advocacy at the highest levels of government.
CAIR-Chicago encourages community members and supporters to take a moment to thank Rep. Ramirez for standing in solidarity with the Muslim community and for recognizing the essential work of civil rights advocacy. Those who believe in justice and pluralism must be as vocal in gratitude as others may be in hostility.
