Aymen Abdel Halim to speak at Carthage College Diversity Summit

On Thursday, March, 14, 2013, CAIR-Chicago Communications Coordinator Aymen Abdel Halim will be speaking about U.S. media portrayals of Islam and Muslims at an event hosted by Carthage College as a part of their first Diversity Summit.  Aymen will discuss U.S. media portrayals of Islam and Muslims in the framework of social, historical, and political contexts, while focusing on contemporary societal issues. He will also discuss the impact of U.S. media portrayals on public perception of Islam and Muslims and how the portrayals affect the American Muslim community.

Carthage College, a four-year private college of arts and sciences, serves 3,400 students at its campus in Kenosha, WI. The Diversity Summit, organized by the Women's Faculty Learning Community and sponsored by a variety of programs and departments at the college, consists of a series of events and activities spanning the month of March.

The Summit features events including a lecture by Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr., and several workshops about various issues related to diversity, ranging in topics from white privilege to gender to alternate models of leadership.
