CAIR-Chicago joins in welcoming Syrian and Iraqi refugees

CAIR-Chicago was proud to host – alongside New Leaders Council-Chicago, Catholic Charities, Syrian Community Network, Am Shalom, J Street Chicago, the Iraqi Mutual Aid Society and the Society of Helpers – Helping Hands,Open Hearts: an Interfaith Holiday Party for Syrian Refugees.  Over 100 guests attended and the organizers raised over $2500 to aid the resettlement of Syrian Refugees in Chicago.  CAIR-Chicago Deputy Director and NLC Board member Sufyan Sohel moderated the event.  Speakers included Tonantzin Carmona; Director of the Mayor’s Office of New Americans; Suzanne Akhras Sahloul. CAIR-Chicago Board memberand Founder and President of the Syrian Community Network; and Waleed Alghizi, Case Manager for Refugee Resettlement at Catholic Charities and an Iraqi Refugee.  Alghizi shared his story and moved the audience with his narrative of escaping violence in Iraq and finding a new home and life in the United States.  CAIR-Chicago looks forward to continued engagement and dialogue with our interfaith partners.
