The Egyptian-Americans for Democracy, the Egyptian American Society, and the Midwest Coalition for Human Rights are joining together as part of a Global Day of Action (being planned by Amnesty sections around the world in conjunction with other partner organizations).

Christina Abraham is invited to to speak during the Midwest Regional Conference to discuss the legislative efforts linked with the Anti-War movements in America. Ethnic group leaders from across the Midwest will gather together and talk about the updates from the struggles against repression from FBI and Grand Jurys. Also a silent auction to help benefit the Committee to Stop FBI Repression.

Chicagoans came out in force on Saturday to show their support for Egyptians demanding democracy, and called on President Obama to urge an immediate change of the Egyptian government.

M. Cherif Bassiouni, distinguished research professor at DePaul University and CAIR-Chicago's Honorary Chairman, will be speaking at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs about his book "The Institutionalization of Torture by the Bush Administration. Is Anyone Responsible?" Bassiouni will hold a small presentation along with a discussion afterward.

The MEC Masjid has invited Ahmed Rehab to speak at an event commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. and his "I Have A Dream" speech. The MEC Education Committee invited Rehab to their fourth seminar of a monthly educational series to talk about MLK and what the civil rights movement is today, 50 years later. Rehab's speech will be followed with a question and answer for further discussion.

The Illinois Coalition on Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is hosting a mayoral candidates forum at the UIC Forum as Chicago prepares for its upcoming election. The candidates may answer questions issues affecting Chicago's communities including immigration, education and affordable housing.

The Jewish-Muslim Community Building Initiative, presented by the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs and CAIR-Chicago, is holding a discussion and study of Jewish and Muslim texts in relation to youth and social change, in recognition of International Human Rights Day. The meeting will be hosted at the KnockBox Cafe, led by a rabbi and an imam from the Chicago area, and will feature discourse on the role of youth leadership in social progress.

The Illinois Coalition on Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is hosting a planning meeting for the upcoming Deportations 101 Conference. At this meeting, the ICIRR will provide logistical details, offer a forum for feedback on strategies and the conference curriculum, discuss the latest government policies and issues facing affected families, as well as a discussion of strategies to use the conference as an advocacy and organizing tool.

This year the Naperville Central, Naperville North, Waubonsie Valley, and Neuqua Valley High School MSA's will be hosting a United MSA dinner. The program will include dinner and a presentation from Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago.

In order to continue CAIR-Chicago’s strong tradition of engaging the community, Executive Director Ahmed Rehab spoke at an event put on by DePaul University’s Muslim student group, UMMA, on the topic of Muslim activism.

The Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS) in Chicago hosted its sixth annual gathering. Muslim High school students from around the Chicago area came to learn how they can become leaders in their community and what it takes to turn ideas into action.

Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago, will be speaking on November 9th at an event sponsored by DePaul University's UMMA.

October 16th marked Immigration Democracy Day for voters and volunteers. Asian, Latino, Polish, Muslim residents and their supporters learned about political participation, heard from their future leaders, and finally, put knowledge into action by early voting.

The most recent list of most frequently banned readings for 2010 was topped by the Qur’an, the holy text of Islam.
