Voter Mobilization: Education & Registration
Will we still have mail-in and absentee ballots for the elections? When does early voting start in Illinois? What is automatic voter registration (AVR)?
CAIR-Chicago will be sure to help clarify what’s in store for voters to cast their ballots safely and ensure they are all counted. Along with local and national partners, CAIR-Chicago will be immersed in voter mobilization in several efforts such as online voter registration drives and video campaigns. There will be action alerts to remind and encourage voters to remember important dates, Illinois laws and policies, and related events to educate and build awareness.

Town Hall Forums
CAIR-Chicago is working in conjunction with several community organizations to bring attention to crucial Chicago area community concerns: gun sales to criminals, immigration reform, and civil rights and liberties. CAIR-Chicago helped bring together leaders from the Christian, Latino, and Muslim communities to discuss the formation of a coalition of concerned citizens to address the importance of working together to better understand each community’s unique societal concerns.
CAIR-Chicago looks forward to learning the candidates’ views on important issues and encourages constituents of his district to attend, listen, and voice their opinions at the yet to be scheduled town hall meeting. Look out for possible town halls in the fall!

Such coalitions of diverse citizenry work to encourage all communities to be proactive in voicing their concerns, needs, perspectives and ideas to our elected representatives locally, statewide, and nationally. About CAIR-Chicago & Civic Engagement
Our Government Affairs Division within the Outreach Department seeks to organize, mobilize, and empower the Muslim community throughout greater Chicagoland and the State of Illinois with long-term civic participation and awareness. Its educational initiatives help community members understand the political system and utilize it to work for their issues.
Projects include voter registration drives, community workshops, “know your rights” educational campaigns, and training sessions at mosques and community centers on how to contact and engage local, state and national elected officials.
The division also systematically works to educate political representatives about their Muslim constituents while ultimately engaging these public officials with the Muslim community’s unique issues and concerns. Finally, the division seeks partnerships in coalitions across various demographics to encourage dialogue and understanding, broaden perspectives and appeal, and set actions that will result in fair, proactive policy making that sustains positive effects for all who live in greater Chicagoland, Illinois and the United States.
